在接下來的幾年中,您的手表、電視和計算機可能都包含微機電系統(tǒng)(MEMS),Sandia正在開發(fā)微米級機器。
MEMS原型將用作替代時鐘源。它與石英晶體不同,因為它是通過靜電而不是壓電方式激發(fā)和感應的。與膨脹或改變形狀的石英對應物不同,這些多晶硅諧振器的物理移動方式與音叉振動的方式大致相同。

通過高倍顯微鏡觀察,MEMS計時設備原型看起來就像一個微型雙端音叉。它由兩條非常細的細繩或尖齒組成——10根可以裝在針頭上——平行固定在紅細胞大小的致動器框架上。在連續(xù)反饋回路(振蕩效應)中設置的電壓通過執(zhí)行器框架施加,導致琴弦來回移動。因為它們非常小,所以MEMS振動極快并產生約1MHz的頻率。盡管對于系統(tǒng)時鐘來說這是一個相對較低的頻率,但原型振蕩器是第一個在音頻范圍以上工作的集成振蕩器。
